The existing UI portal was getting on in years: The technical basis was no longer up to date, the integration of new applications was sometimes difficult, the user friendliness could only be improved and mobile use was limited.
The objective of the relaunch of the UI portal was therefore to establish a new central service and application access for managers and employees. The implementation was based on standardized portal software from SAP and VANTAiO. The focus was clearly on the needs of the users – the essential requirements for the design of the system were a very good user experience and "joy of use" in everyday work.
For this purpose, the User Centered Design (UCD) methodology was used for the first time at Union Investment. Initiated and implemented by BLUPRNT, Offenbach, this user-oriented project approach and design formed the basis for a targeted adaptation of the software basis. The result was a significant reduction in complexity, intuitive web interfaces and design and processes that were optimally tailored to the users' needs. The result was, for example, the option of displaying larger fonts, which was often requested by employees over 45+, as well as a practical task management system that facilitates the completion of many tasks under time pressure (the typical pre-holiday situation).
The use of VANTAiO portal software enabled the time- and budget-saving use of full-responsive standard solutions while at the same time being optimally adaptable to the UI style guide. Highlights from a functional point of view include the personalised Application Store, a new user-friendly approval cockpit, adjustable substitution rules and maintainable, context-based additional information for applications.
The new UI portal has been live in practice since April 2019 and is used daily by more than 2,500 employees.
